Older Style (pre-1880) Steinways are very rare, especially the 1870s Model B's since there were only about 100 built annually and many have perished. Model C's of this era and 1880s and 1890s Steinways are much more common. In the last 5 years, this is the only 6'10" model B we have seen anywhere for sale. We have found 3 of the more common 7'2 models and they were selling for $250,000; $135,000 and $80,000. These pianos did not have the original music racks, ivories or matching benches either. A new Steinway Model B art case similar to this piano woud cost over $90,000. Model B's are often considered the "perfect size" Steinway since they often have better power and tone than an A, yet do not look too massive for a home, like the nearly 9' Model D's.
